Health Net of Arizona

Health Net Inc. (NYSE: HNT) is one of the nation's largest publicly traded managed healthcare companies, providing healthcare benefits to approximately 5.5 million individuals in 13 states through group, individual, Medicare, Medicaid and TRICARE programs.

Its Arizona group, Health Net of Arizona, was founded in 1981 as Intergroup of Arizona by several Tucson physicians in a multi-specialty medical practice. In1985, it became a federally qualified HMO.

A few years later, in 1992, Health Net of Arizona introduced a Medicare choice plan called SeniorCare, which is today one of the fastest growing senior plans in Arizona. SeniorCare offers more affordable and comprehensive coverage than original Medicare, including access to an extensive network of private practice physicians, hospitalization and emergency coverage — all for one low monthly premium. SeniorCare is available to Medicare beneficiaries who are currently eligible for Part A and enrolled in Part B, have not been diagnosed with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), and are residents of Maricopa/Apache Junction, Pima, Pinal and Santa Cruz counties.

In 1995, Health Net of Arizona revised its employer HMO plan for sale directly to individuals and families. In 1998, it introduced an open network plan, an HMO with no referrals required.

Health Net of Arizona was voted the best HMO in Arizona in an annual poll conducted by Arizona Business Magazine.
